Acidification of the body is a problem that many people are currently struggling with. This is related to the pace and lifestyle of our lives, but also, to a large extent, to the products we consume. What is the body's acidification, what are its concerns and which products should be avoided in order not to lead to it?
What is body acidification?
Acidification of the body is a condition in which the acid-base balance in our body is disturbed. Why does it happen? The natural pH of our blood is 7.35-7.45, so it is slightly alkaline. Our body produces products capable of both acidification and alkalization. Unfortunately, when the first ones predominate in the body, there are problems. Our body tries to deal with this problem, for example by increasing the excretion of C02 through the lungs or by exchanging the kidneys of urea for ammonia, which binds some acids. However, if the acidification is too high, the body may not be able to deal with the problem on its own. There are many causes of acid-base imbalance in our body. Unfortunately, today's lifestyle is not conducive to maintaining a proper pH in our blood. Lack of physical activity, stress and a fast pace of life are factors that regulatory systems may not be able to cope with, resulting in acidification. Our nutrition also plays an important role in maintaining the acid-base balance. On the other hand, we have more influence on them, so it is worth knowing which products should be excluded from the diet.
Symptoms of acidification of the body
Acid-base imbalance can cause a number of unpleasant symptoms such as weakness, susceptibility to infection and drowsiness. It also causes problems with dry skin and brittleness of hair and nails, so it has an adverse effect on our appearance. It can also lead to diarrhoea, constipation and anal burning, as well as increase predisposition to inflammation of the intestines and irritation and burning of the urinary tract. Gum inflammation, cracking of the corners of the mouth and the formation of seizures and persistent rhinitis are other problems that a person with an acid-base imbalance may encounter. Rheumatism, arthritis, calf cramps and osteoporosis may also occur.
Acidification of the body also has a fatal impact on our mood. It can cause lack of energy, permanent fatigue and even depression. Other symptoms are nervousness, stimulation without reason and irritability. These are ailments that make life and relations with others much more difficult. As you can see, acidification of the body is a serious problem, which should be effectively combated.
Which products acidify the body?
Fortunately, you have a big influence on what ingredients will be released in the body during the changes. Products rich in: Sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium have an alkalizing effect, while phosphorus, chlorine, sulphur - an acidifying effect. Therefore, in order to maintain the acid-base balance in the body, you should limit the intake of animal fats that have an acidifying effect. Eggs, meat, cold cuts, fish and cheese should not form the basis of your diet. It is also worth reducing the consumption of cereal products, polished rice, salt and fats. Sweets, carbonated sweet drinks and alcohol are not only unhealthy for us, but also have a negative effect on the acid-base balance. It is also a good idea to reduce the intake of caffeine contained in coffee or black tea. As many fruits and vegetables as possible that are alkaline should be introduced into the diet.
